My moms 50th birthday!!

Today my mom turned 50 and luckily she was still in town so we got to celebrate with her!
We went to one of my favorite restaurants House Of Tricks for dinner and the food was incredible, as usual.
After dinner, we were supposed to go play laser tag- but because of the holidays and the 'holiday schedule' they weren't open. :(
So we headed back to my moms house and had ice cream cake.
After cake, we all took turns doing the splits- surprisingly 'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter' can get lower than I can- but my niece was the only one who was actually able to do them. (In her dance class, when everyone gets their splits- they get to have an ice cream party!)
I am so lucky to have the best mom in the entire world- she really is one of my best friends and I don't know what I would do without her. We have definitely had our share of wild adventures that still make me laugh, and she's always there to help me with all my last minute projects. LOVE YOU MOM!!
When is your birthday?

Christmas 2014

Just like last year, we had everyone over for dinner at our house on Christmas Eve. 'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter' did an AMAZING prime rib roast with a ton of sides- it was all incredible! He also did his traditional Filipino food like short ribs, fried rice, and meatballs. Everyone was so, so good!! (Of course I don't have any pictures. :(

And I finally finished our pajamas ON Christmas Eve- talk about extreme procrastination!!
They said "Son of a Nut Cracker"
To continue with the procrastination, we finished wrapping some gifts! (I know!! I really am going to work on getting better at this next year!!)

We slept in until 10am on Christmas- it was amazing! We opened gifts at our house and headed to my sisters around 11:30 for brunch and to do gifts with my family. It was so much fun!
This apparently was the 'kid' table, as all the adults/parents are missing. ;)
I had really been wanting to get a video camera for all of our upcoming trips (especially New Zealand!) and 'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter totally surprised me and got me one! I absolutely LOVE it!! And on top of that his dad gave us a GoPro!! 'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter' has been having a blast playing with it. I'm so excited to be able to video (and GoPro) all of our upcoming adventures!!
Merry Christmas Everyone!!

National Cupcake Day 2014!!

You all know today is one of my favorite days of the year! And with the Cupcake ATM launch last week, this really is the most wonderful time of year! :)
I was looking forward to getting cupcakes all day, and I think the excitement helped me run my fastest 5k today at gym on a treadmill.
(I walked for 2 minutes to warm up and it was .10 miles)
'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter' gave me a gift card for FOUR free cupcakes and I was finally able to put it to good use! ;)
I went to the same cupcake shop I always go to, and just like years before-- no celebration for this glorious holiday! I was shocked! I told them they really needed to step up their game! ;)
I picked out 4 of the cutest cupcakes and headed home. All of the flavors were so, SO delicious!!
Great photo right?
Did you celebrate 'National Cupcake Day' today?

Beauty and the Beast Off Broadway!

After the Superbowl 4.k Race, I headed to the gym for my long swim and after that, came home and started getting ready for our 'road-trip' date! We were headed down to Tucson (100 miles away) to have dinner and watch Broadway's 'Beauty and The Beast'. I have been SO excited for this for weeks and was ecstatic that it was finally here!

Since the show started at 8:00pm, we left around 4:30 to make our 6:00 dinner reservations. The sunset on the drive down there was amazing!
'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter' looked up a bunch of nice restaurants in Tucson and we both agreed on Feast- plus it ended up working out perfectly, because it was about 3 miles from the theater.

OH. MY. GOSH! Everything about this restaurant was perfect! The atmosphere, the menu, the food-- seriously everything! The only bummer is that we were running out of time and couldn't get dessert. <<Insert SUPER sad face!>>

We quickly headed over to the theater at UofA, picked up our tickets, and headed inside to our seats. Our seats were great- second row in the center. I was hoping to be able to see the orchestra, like we could at Lion King in New York, but there was a wall up and we couldn't.

The show was SO good! I loved every second of it! The talent of everyone involved is truly incredible. It was longer than Lion King, but the time flew by. It was really, really well done. The Candlestick and Clock were definitely my favorite!!

Once the show was over, we decided to head back home- even though it was 11:30pm. (We originally were going to get a hotel, but wanted to head home and be able to get in a bike ride on Sunday morning, and that probably wouldn't have happened if we spent the day in Tucson.) We stopped for gas and while I was pumping gas, 'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter' went inside for soda to keep me awake and came out with ice cream cones since we didn't get to have dessert at Feast. He really is the sweetest guy ever.

We finally made it home around 1:30am and I have to say it was one of my favorite dates. The long drive alone together, dinner, and the amazing show- couldn't ask for more.

Kicking off Superbowl 49!!

Today was a SUPER fun race! My friend works for the Cardinals and got free entries into their 4.9k Superbowl 49 kickoff race.

I was a little worried because it had rained on and off throughout the night, and was supposed to rain again this morning, but it ended up being perfect weather! The ground was a little muddy at the start but not too bad.

We got to Rawhide and walked around a little bit before it started and saw Big Red and some of the Cardinals cheerleaders. I was determined to get a picture with Big Red before we left. ;)

The race started and we went out FAST... probably a little too fast. I think at one point, she said we were doing an 8:15 pace....

We came up on the first water station and walked through it as we grabbed water. We started running again- and it was hard. We were definitely pushing ourselves! We walked through the second aid station and then practically sprinted the rest of the way to the finish.
Proof that I was absolutely loving life... ;)

As I came up to the finish I was too busy waving my hands in the air like like I just don't care, and totally missed high-fiving Big Red!!
But he totally realized I probably made the biggest mistake of my life and backed up and let me have a re-do. :)
Once we finished, we got some Gatorade and awesome post-race food- seriously, for this being a smaller race, it really had such a great spread of post-race food: protein bars, bananas, oranges, pretzels, water, chips, etc.

we walked around for a little bit and actually caught Big Red leaving and was able to stop him and snap a picture with him!! MADE MY DAY!!

We left with all our hands full of stuff- including a free water bottle from a local news station! This was such a fun, friendly race- with GREAT weather! :)

Who's excited for the Superbowl?!

What's your favorite football team? Mine would have to be the Arizona Cardinals with the Denver Broncos in a close second place. ;)

My New Favorite ATM!!

So I had gotten SEVERAL texts, emails, Facebook messages, and even calls about the new cupcake ATM opening up at Sprinkles Cupcakes in Scottsdale. I truly appreciate everyone who reached out to me, you all know how much I love cupcakes!! :)
After work, my sister came over and we headed to check it out. I was super excited to check it out-- I mean an ATM that gives you cupcakes?! such a genius idea!
We got there, and apparently weren't the only ones who got the memo.... there was a pretty long line for the ATM. (Which was hilarious, because the actual Sprinkles store was still open and there was no one inside-- everyone was waiting to use the new ATM! Haha!
Blurry phone pictures are the best! ;)
So we got in line, and it was moving pretty quickly. (To be honest, I think the thing that was taking the longest is everyone taking a bunch of photos with it after they bought their cupcakes!!)

We finally got up there and my sister bought 4 cupcakes and then I bought 2. It was pretty cool that they show a video of it grabbing your cupcakes and bringing it up to the door. (My nephew and niece thought it was the coolest because they could see themselves in the back of the video. HAHA!!)
All of the cupcakes were really good, my sister mixed up my two with her 4 and I ended up with a peanut butter chocolate chip one- which was good, but kind of dry. Carsen ate my second cupcake and it was super moist and REALLY good- he loved it!

Have you ever used a Cupcake ATM?

What's the weirdest thing you've stood in line for?

Hot Chocolate 15K!!

Do I love running? Yes. Do I love chocolate? Yes. Well, the geniuses behind The Hot Chocolate Run know what they are doing by combining the two!! Such a sweet run! (see what I did there? ;))
I had heard about this race and always wanted to do it, but the higher price always scared me away ($75 for 15k, and I think the 5K is $45). But one of my girlfriends from the track club we were in, said she was doing it and asked if I wanted to do it with her. She is a WAY faster runner than me, but I thought it would be a great experience to practice pushing myself outside of my comfort zone in a race environment. (If you're read my blog for awhile, you know I like to just stay at a comfortable pace and not push too hard. ;)) So, 'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter' and I decided to see what all the hype was about and sign up.
We went to the expo the day before the race, as right as you entered the expo, there was a booth set up with people handing out cups of hot chocolate and marshmallows dipped in chocolate sauce. This alone made it the best expo I've ever been to!! ;) Once we finally got inside, we ran into our track coach and talked about our goals for the race.
Best way to enter an expo!
We finally made our way to the packet pickup and a volunteer told us we could go into any line, none of which had a wait, so we each picked a line and walked right up. They asked for my name and printed out my name on a sticker and attached it to a bib. Then they handed me the super cute goodie bag and directed us to the jackets.
I wanted to show the zipper and the logo.... he wanted to show you the hoodie :)
We picked up our jackets and browsed through the rest of the expo and then took some pictures with the marshmallow people. :)
We got some dinner and headed home to watch a movie. Since the race didn't start until 8:15am, we were able to sleep in a little bit later than usual, which was amazing!!

We got down there and got parked pretty quickly. For a sold out race, I was really impressed with how organized and fast traffic was moving. We made our way to the start line and stopped to use the port-o-potties. And again, I was super impressed with the amount of port-o-potties they had. We jumped in one of the longer lines (it was the closest one to us) and it was only 5 people deep.

After, we headed to the start line to find our friend, Sarah. We found her, watched 'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter' do his warm up, and then headed to our corrals. (Buddy the Elf was in our corral!!) We discussed our plan of starting out conservatively at a 10 minutes mile pace and then slowly increase as we got further into race.

Once our corral finally started, it took us a little bit to be able to find some room to run, but once we did it was great. I felt really good and Sarah said our pace was 9:03.... way to fast. So we tried to slow down a bit, but we are still at about 9:15. She said we could just hold this pace and then slow down later if we needed.

This was the kind of race where the miles just fly by- and I mean FLY!! I felt like we just started when we passed the first mile marker, then it seems like only a couple minutes passed and we were at 2! The aid stations had the BEST volunteers ever! They were cheering SO loud and just seemed to genuinely be happy to be there. (Maybe it was the later start time? ;))

We hit the 5K mark and we were pretty settled into a 9:35 pace. She said we had some extra time (our goal was to finish before 1:30) so we walked through a couple of the aid stations and grabbed water.

There was a super boring out-and-back stretch right around mile 6 to 7.5 that really sucked. I think it's always hard for me to see people on the other side looking so happy and closer to being done than me. ;) But then once I'm on that side, I feel bad for all the people behind me because they all look miserable. haha!

Once we hit mile 8 we knew we were close! We also saw a group of ladies who hadn't even hit the 6 mile marker- cross over and totally cheat! A couple other runners called them out on it and they really didn't seem to care. I told Sarah we had to beat the cheaters so we picked up the pace and passed them. :)

Once we could finally see the finish line, I told Sarah to sprint to the finish line, but she was still recovering from being sick (MAJOR trooper for even doing the run- let alone pushing me the whole time!!) She told me to go and to sprint to the finish. I told her I wouldn't leave her and we would finish together. She said no and said she would be mad if I didn't sprint to the finish and break 1:30 and told me to GO! So I took off and sprinted through the finish with Sarah finishing right behind me.

It was SUCH a great race to run with Sarah. I typically find my comfort zone (about 10 minute miles) and just stick to that-- but Sarah really pushed me outside of my comfort zone and I realized that it wasn't really that hard- there was never a time I was breathing hard (except for the sprint to the finish) or working passed my max. So I definitely learned a lot.
From my Instagram: TeamSprinklesAndGltter
I finished in 1:29:50 and Sarah finished in 1:30 on the dot! We finished, got the cutest medals EVER and headed for the chocolate! Every finisher gets a mug with a cup of hot chocolate. In the mug, you have chocolate sauce and a bunch of different stuff to dip it in!! So, SO good!!

It was SUCH a fun race, really organized, and you got a lot of good stuff to! I absolutely loved it and will definitely be back!! And look how cute the medal were!! Have you ever seen such a cute medal??

What's the coolest medal you have from? What does it look like?

Have you ever done a race for 'sweets'? This was my first and I loved it!! :)

Tour de Tucson!!

As if doing Ironman Arizona last Sunday wasn't fun enough, 'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter' and I decided to do Tour de Tucson with a couple friends this weekend!! It was an absolute blast!!
Since the race was on Saturday, we drove down to Tucson after work on Friday and stayed with ours friend David's cousin. She was super sweet and had the cutest little dog ever!
Since we are the mega-procrastinators, we had to register at the expo and then pick up all of our stuff. Jasen and David were signed up for the 104 mile race and my friend, Veronica and I were signed up for the 75 mile race.

After we left the expo, we quickly grabbed dinner at Olive Garden and headed back to her apartment to do some last minute things to get ready for the race.

We woke up Saturday, and the 104 race started earlier than the 75 miler, so I dropped 'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter' off at his start line and then went to Veronica's hotel to hang out for a little bit before leaving to our race.
We got down to our start line (different from the boys') with plenty of time to spare, we found some water to top off our water bottles, used the port-o-potties, and waited in the warm car. :)
About 15 minutes before the start, we made our way to the starting line and waited with all the other cyclist. This was my first bike race and it was pretty intimidating to be surrounded by hundreds of cyclists, who all looked like they knew exactly what they were doing.
We heard the National Anthem and then we were off. Immediately people were shouting "on your left!", "on your right', or "coming up the middle!" it was definitely a new experience for me and I absolutely loved watching all the cyclists weave their way in, out, and around others. (I was also terrified, holding on for dear life, and trying to be aware of my surroundings!)

We hadn't even gotten a mile into the race when I heard "hey babe!" from behind. I turned and there was 'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter' passing on my right!! Talk about perfect timing!! :)

After a couple minutes the boys were out of sight, and we settled into a comfortable pace. The roads weren't in the best conditions, with lots of cracks and potholes, but the entire course was lined with spectators cheering loudly, and the views along the way were gorgeous!

About 12 miles in, we had to get off our bikes and walk it through a river/wash area which doubled as an aid station. They had the coolest mariachi band playing too! We walked through and grabbed bananas and quickly hit the road.

We didn't stop at any of the aid stations until we were about 35 miles in. They had volunteers waiting, offering to hold your bike while you used the port-o-potties or stretched. It was really nice! We refilled our waters and got some pretzels and were back out on the road.

So many hills! To me it seemed like the entire course was one hill after another-- this may have been due to the fact that I was still somewhat sore-tight from Ironman and hadn't road my bike since Ironman and even an ant hill would have felt like a hill to me. ;)

For a majority of the race, we road side by side, but as we got further and further in, we began riding in packs and discovered the world of drafting. Holy cow- it's intense!! I literally was white knuckled and so nervous when we would get into a large group- I kept thinking I was going to be that one person who falls or crashes and starts a huge 100-bike pile up!! (Luckily, that didn't happen!! ;))

We stopped again at an aid station and found out we were 14 miles from the finish. We were both ready to be done. They had peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches- and it was the best PB&J I've ever had!! It was just what I needed and then we were back on the road.

Those last 14 miles seemed like 40! It took forever! We were riding along a freeway access road/on-ramp and I think we had to stop at every light along the way- which only made things seem longer. Not to mention every on-ramp was a slight hill- JOY!! ;)

Once we were finally off the freeway, we knew we were close and kept thinking every turn was the last turn. We finally turned onto a long straight-away and I could see the crowded finish at the end. We were hauling butt to that finish line and I told her we should "cowboy" across the finish line- you know, where you raise one hand in the air and wave it in circles. She laughed, but agreed.

We were flying into the finisher chute, surrounded on both sides by cheering fans, and I shouted "NOW!!" We were 'cowboy-ing' our little hearts out approaching the finish line and I turned to look at Veronica and she must of hit a bump in the road and looked like she was about to fall off her bike. She quickly recovered and didn't end up falling. (Looking back at the road conditions it may not have been the smartest idea to fly into the finish riding with one hand. You live, you learn! ;))
We immediately stopped after crossing the finish line, so, SO glad to be off the bikes and set off  to find the boys. We found them, got our free cookies, and we're done.
I think I can officially say I'm a cyclist now-- at least that's what Athlinks tells me, since it put a little 'C' next to my name. ;) I had SO much fun and cannot wait to do another bike race!

Have you ever done a race that allowed drafting? Do you like it?

What are your Thanksgiving Plans? Anyone racing?

Ironman Race Recap!!

We woke up pretty early and slowly started doing our own thing. He showered and made oatmeal while I triple checked my bags and burned pancakes. :)

Once we were both ready, we loaded all of our bags into the truck and headed down to Tempe Town Lake. We surprisingly were able to get into the parking lot and park fairly quick.Which was great because it gave us more time to haul our 20 pound bags to the bag drop off. (Seriously, we had to stop and take breaks!!)
We got our bags dropped off, added stuff to our transition bags, and then each went our separate ways to our bikes. I loaded my bike up with my fuel and water bottles and went to the bike tent and pumped up my tires- that probably didn't need it, but I did it just to be sure. ;)
Once I had everything done, I took my wet suit and stood in the longest line ever for the port-o-potties. I luckily ran into 'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter' and we were able to wait together. We didn't really talk much and once we finally made our way through the line, we quickly put on our wet suits and made our way to the water. We ran into our friend Jason- which is always nice right before a race start. :)

'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter' gave me a kiss and said 'alright, see you at the finish!' and I nervously said 'okay'. Next thing I know, we were jumping into the water with 3,000 other athletes and heading towards the start line.
I was sure I wasn't going to make it up to the start line before the gun went off, but surprisingly, I got up there and had a couple minutes to spare. (I later found out that they started 5 minutes late). I listened to Mike Reilly give us our last pep talk and heard the roar of the spectators explode as the canon went off.
There I was, starting the swim of my second Ironman in a sea of athletes. I had got myself into a pretty good position and felt good. Once we got a few hundred meters in, things changed. It seemed like no one around me could swim straight and they were constantly swimming back and fourth in front of me. And the pace was rapidly changing- a swimmer would go flying past me- literally swimming all out, and then a minute later I would pass them only to be passed by another swimmer going all out.

When we finally reached the half-way point, I was really excited knowing that the swim was almost over. Not long after that I felt some pretty big waves and started to feel seasick- I kept looking around for a boat or jetski's going fast (creating the waves) but didn't see anything other than kayaks and paddle boards. (Later I would find out it was the crazy wind....)
Finally saw the swim exit and picked up the pace. Got to the stairs, quickly got out and found an available stripper who got my suit off in less than 3 seconds! Then headed towards transition. I loudly called out my number and grabbed my bag as I ran by making my way to the tent.
Thanks to The Dooley's for these photos!!
Once I was inside the tent, one of the friendly volunteers came over and began helping me get my arm warmers on and getting what I needed out of my bag. (She also put my wet suit and goggles back into my bag!) She was seriously so sweet and SO helpful.

I quickly exited the tent, grabbed my bike and took off for the 112 mile journey. (For those of you who know me, or have read last years race recap, you know that the bike portion of the race is what I fear the most. Nothing has changed- it still terrifies me.) Leaving the bike chute I could feel the wind, it wasn't bad but definitely noticeable. I smiled when I saw my family and headed towards the beeline. The moment we turned heading north the "light breeze" instantly changed to 'in-your-face-brutal' winds. I dropped my gears, kept my head down, and moved forward.
It seemed as if the further we got on the beeline, the more the wind picked up. It was extremely disheartening to be out of breath, working at my absolute max, climbing the hills to Shea Blvd., and then to look down and realize I was going 6 miles per hour. SIX MILES PER HOUR!!
Once we reached the turn around point at Shea, I knew it was all down hill and we would be working with the wind-- and boy did we fly back! At one point I wasn't even pedaling, holding on for dear life and going over 30 miles per hour!! It was nice to have the time to recover from the climbing but the cross winds would come and I was terrified I was going to tip my bike over. (It didn't help seeing a few bike wrecks out there with medics and ambulances.)

Coming back into town went way to fast and before I knew it, I was done with the first loop heading back out to face the brutal winds. This loop absolutely sucked for me. Facing the wind, knowing that I still had to complete another loop after this one-- was a really tough mental battle the entire loop.

I finished the second loop drained- both physically and mentally. Started the third loop and was ready to be done. I felt like I was going WAY slower than I had been the previous two loops and felt like I was working WAY harder, I chalked it up to being tired and didn't think nothing of it. I stopped to use a port-o-potty and felt my tires out of habit and noticed my back tire was extremely low. I rode my bike to the next aid station and used a pump they had there-- my tire pressure was 60 when it should have been 120!! I got back on the rode and felt a lot better- but was still battling the wind. I kept telling myself that I just needed to get up to Shea- knowing that the way back would fly by.

When I finally, finally reached Shea for the last time I felt like I just crossed a finish line- and in my mental battle I did. I quickly stopped to check my back tire and noticed again that it was low (not as low as before, but I definitely had a slow leak). At the same time, I heard someone mention we were getting close to the bike cut off (my biggest fear!) and it was then I made the decision to ride it out, knowing I could hit that aid station on the way back and use their pump again, instead of spending 10 minutes changing my tire. I knew it was risky, but I also knew the leak was slow and had held up this long. I pushed it going back into town, knowing I would need to stop again to use a pump.

I reached the last aid station and quickly called out for a pump- everyone seemed dumbfounded and said they didn't have one. How could it not be there?! I just used it!! Figuring I could make it back I jumped back on my bike and took off. Not a minute after I left, I heard people whistling and screaming "We have a pump!!" I pulled over and turned around and made my way back. Used the oldest pump I've ever seen- seriously, it was rusty, covered in dust, and felt like it was made of solid steel! But it did the job and got me back to transition.
As we were approaching transition, a guy came up beside me and made a comment about the brutal wind. I agreed and asked him if he thought we were going to make the bike cut off, he said yes and that we definitely had plenty of time.
I saw my family right as I finished the bike and it was SO nice to see them and even nicer to be off the bike! :)
I handed my bike to another awesome volunteer, grabbed my bike bag, and headed back into the tent. I was immediately greeted by another super friendly and helpful lady who emptied my bad and asked what I needed. She even took off my bike shoes as I changed my shirt! I thanked her countless times and was headed out of the tent when she called out to me and told me I still had my bike shorts on! I looked down and remembered I put on a pair of riding shorts over my tri shorts before the bike. I awkwardly took them off over my shoes and she grabbed them and told me to get going and she would put them back into my bag. Seriously, the volunteers are incredible!!

After that, I was running.  The run is by far my favorite part of an Ironman. The crowd is intense, the music is loud, and you know you're almost done by this point. ;)

I ran into one of our friends, Toby and walked/ran with him for a little bit while I ate a pb and j sandwich and talked how we were both doing. It's always good to see familiar faces out there and be distracted- even if it is only for a couple minutes.

About a mile into the run I heard 'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter' from behind! My heart about jumped out of my chest! I literally could have cried I was so happy to see him. We ran together for about a half second (he is wayyy to fast;)) but he asked how I was doing and he told me he  was on his second loop (I was totally jealous) and then he was gone. I saw him again about 2 miles later at a turn around point and it was just as amazing.

I felt good on the run- I could tell that the bike had used up too much of my energy and I was ready to be done. I was extremely worried about the time and not finishing before midnight. But I kept moving and slowly the miles ticked by. I saw The Dooley's around mile 5 and asked Caroline about time, and she was sure I would make it. She showed me the time and told me I had plenty of time to finish.
So glad The Dooley's were there!!
When I hit the 10 mile turn around point I was really shocked that I was already 10 miles in. I headed back around the lake knowing that my family would be there.

Once I saw my family around mile 16, I asked if 'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter' had finished and they all laughed and said 'he's right there!!' and pointed behind me. I turned and saw him and he started running with me. ((Who does this?! Seriously, who finishes an Ironman and then comes back and finds their girlfriend and runs with her?!)) I asked him how he felt and told him I was worried about the time and not finishing before midnight. He assured me that I was going to make it- he told me all I had to do was 30 minute miles for the remainder of the run. To any rational person, that seems extremely do-able.... to me doing an Ironman, that was still terrifying. He ran with me for probably a quarter mile and then said he would see me at the finish line.

Before I knew it, I was back at the 10 mile turn around-- which now meant I was at mile 21. I was so excited to finally be there! I had a handful of miles left and I was done. I walked up Curry hill for the second time and thought I may actually make it. It was so dark and quite on that road I could hear the music from the finish line and hear Mike Reilly's voice making peoples dreams come true.
I thought back to last year's race and how my much had completely changed since then. My dad was completely blown away by Ironman and everything that went along with it and he said he "walked around like a peacock" he was so proud. He was so excited to volunteer at Ironman this year and loved to talk about it-- he even wrote the paper after I finished last year and it made the front page!! He thought the athletes who did an Ironman were incredible and even had a 140.6 sticker on his car!

Right as I turned off of Curry Hill I saw a sign that my family had put out there the day before. My dad helped with the signs last year and he made his signs say "Whattler- Ironman Champ!" haha!! So seeing this sign made me smile.
I was finally back into civilization again and had about 4 miles to the finish. As I left one of the aid stations I saw our friend Brady sitting on the curb. I asked if he could run with me for a second and he jumped right up. I thanked him and asked him for the time- still stressing I wouldn't make it. He told me the time and reassured me I could (and would) finish. I thanked him and told him he didn't have to keep running with me but he did. He talked and told me about his Ironman Wisconsin, definitely a great distraction!
Once we had ran about a mile we ran into 'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter'!!! My heart again, about exploded!! He started running with us and told me the tracker wasn't updating them on me, so they got worried and he came to find me. Brady was just as shocked as I was that he was even able to run, and asked if 'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter' wanted to finish it with me, as much as me wanted to, I don't think he could have. haha!! He told Brady to finish it with me and to not let me walk-- he knows me too well. ;)
Brady was definitely pushing the pace and I could feel it. I was ready to be done so I just held on. About a mile from the finish, my sister and bonus-dad, Dale we're waiting for me (again, saying the tracker wasn't updating and they were worried. I really do have the best family EVER!!) They both ran with me for about half mile and then said they would see me at the finish line.
Brady continued to push the pace and told me that if I pushed it I could beat 16 hours. I tried to keep up and said 'okay'. We tuned the last corner and I could see the finisher chute. He told me that it was as far as he could go with me and told me I needed to really push all the way to the finish line. I thanked him again and took off.
The music was blaring, the crowd was going crazy, and I was running as fast as I could to get there. I could barely see where the finish line was with all the blinding bright lights, but I knew I was getting close. I heard Mike Reilly shout "Kim Whattler YOU- ARE- AN- IRONMAN!!!!!" And I knew I had made it. I had the biggest smile on my face and thew my arms in the air. I was SO happy/excited/proud. I freaking did it.
The volunteer who caught me was my friends boyfriend- again, it was great to see familiar faces, and he lead me to get my medal and my shirt and then showed me where 'Mr. Sprinkles and Glitter' and Maria were waiting. We all were now Ironmen, it was awesome. We took some pictures together and got some food, then started the ridiculously tiring process of gathering your bags and bike. We had to say goodbye to my bonus-mom and sister, who had to get home and put her kids to bed, but we still had my mom and bonus dad who helped us. (which I am extremely grateful for!)

Once we had gotten all of our bags and bikes, we headed back to the finish line to watch the midnight finishers. Like always, it is completely inspiring and awesome to watch. It gives me chills every year.

After the last finisher, we slowly made our way to the car and drove around to the only place still open (at 1 o'clock in the morning!) for food: Jack in the Box. :)
We got home, unloaded the car, hardly ate anything and then tried to lay down for a couple hours before we had to wake up at 5 to go back down to Tempe Town Lake to get in line for finisher gear.
